We keep it so you can watch your review. This page says what we keep, who touches it, how Dan Beta learns, and how you delete it. Plain words, no small print.

The short version

Your clip is yours, and we keep it so you can watch your review.
We remove the sound and the location from your clip, and an AI from Anthropic reads still frames to find your holds, your feet and the fix.
Dan and the team check some clips; nothing trains on your clips today, and after the next app update free reviews also teach our models unless you tap "Not this clip" or turn it off in You.
We never show your clip in public without asking you about that clip, and we never sell your data or show you ads.
You can delete a review or your whole account at any time, in the app or by email.

What we collect

Only what a review needs, and what tells us if the app works.

Your clipThe part of the video you choose to send. Nothing else from your camera roll.
A few answersYour grade, your goal, your height, your wingspan, where in the clip you fell, and "did it work?" after your next try. Each one is optional.
What the review findsThe review itself, a track of points on your body from the clip (hips, hands, feet), and "What Dan knows about you". Tap anything wrong there and it goes.
App events, never videoShort records like "review ready" or "next try filmed", with the time. They show us where the app is slow or breaks.
An anonymous accountThe app makes an account with no name, email or phone number. Your Dans, invites and reviews hang on it.
Error reportsWhen something breaks, the app or server sends what went wrong. We scrub tokens, keys and email addresses out of them.
On this websiteIf you join the waitlist: your email, and your first name if you give it. If you type a wrong access code in the app, we keep your IP address to stop code guessing. We delete it at the next clean-up after one day.

We never ask where you climb. We never make a face print or a voice print from your clip.

What we remove

The copy of your clip we keep has no sound and no location. We also remove the date and device tags your phone writes into a video. The same goes for everything we make from it: the review, the voice files, and the clip you share.

The raw file from your phone can still carry sound and tags while it waits for the review. Only you and the review job can get it, and we delete it when the review finishes.

Who touches your data

Five companies do work for us. They process your data only to run Dan Beta.

SupabaseStores your clip, your reviews and your account (database, file storage and sign-in).
ModalRuns the review: reads your climb from the clip and speaks the AI voice of Dan.
AnthropicIts AI, Claude, sees still frames from your clip and the answers the review needs (like your height), and writes the review.
CloudflareDelivers the app and this website, passes the app's requests to our server, and checks the waitlist form for bots.
ResendKeeps the waitlist and sends the waitlist email. Only if you join the waitlist.

No ads. No selling. No sharing your data for someone else's ads.

This website loads its font from Google Fonts, so Google sees that your browser asked for it.

Who can watch your clip

YouYour clip and your review stay in your account.
Dan and the team, for some clipsThey watch some clips and their AI reviews to find where the AI gets it wrong. This is part of the service. A review says "Checked by Dan" only when Dan checked it.
The people you send it toWhen you share a review, you choose where it goes.

We never show your clip in public without asking you about that clip.

Not on the website, not in Dan's videos, not as an example. A yes to that is a separate question, for one clip at a time.

How Dan Beta learns

Your beta helps every climber send harder. The AI still gets things wrong: it can watch the spotter instead of you, call a send a fall, or miss a heel hook it cannot see. Clips show us where. Read what your clips fixed.

Checks, on every planDan and the team grade some AI reviews against the clip. This is how we test the AI, and it is part of the service.
Training, with free DansNothing trains on climbers' clips today. Learning starts with the next app update, after the app shows you the new notice. From then, free reviews also teach our models: the clip, the body track, your answers and Dan's fixes. That is the deal for free Dans.
"Not this clip" Coming with the next app updateTap it on any clip, and that clip stays out of training.
The You setting Coming with the next app updateYou → "Keep my clips out of training" keeps all your clips out. You can also take back your past clips.
Paid Dans never need itWhen Dans have a price, a paid review is never used for training. Until paid Dans exist, turning training off is free: your free Dans keep working.

Turning it off stops future use. It does not undo what a model already learned.

A model that trained on a clip cannot forget it. The next model trains without it.

California: free Dans and your data

California law calls a free service that comes with data use a "financial incentive". This is our notice of it.

The offer: Free Dans (2 a month, and Dans from friends you invite) include letting Dan Beta train on those clips. Paid Dans never do.
What data: Clips (video, no sound, no location), pose tracks (points on your body from the clip), your answers (grade, goal, height, wingspan, where you fell, did it work), and Dan's fixes to your review.
How you opt in: At your first clip, the app shows you this deal before anything uploads. You opt in with the tap on "Got it — review my clip". Coming with the next app update For the lawyer
How you withdraw: Tap "Not this clip" on any clip, or turn on You → "Keep my clips out of training", at any time. Coming with the next app update Until paid Dans exist, this costs you nothing.
What the data is worth, and how we worked it out For the lawyer: We value it the same as the free service it comes with. Method: what it costs us to run a review, times the free reviews you get. We measured about 3.2¢ for one review on our current setup (28 September 2026), so 2 free reviews come to about 6.4¢ a month. Once Dans have a price, we use the price of one Dan instead of our cost.

Other people in your clip

Film so other people are not in the shot when you can. When you send a clip, you tell us that anyone else in it is OK with it.

The review marks only the climber. If it cannot tell which person is you, it draws nothing.

Someone is in your clip and wants out? Email us and we remove it.

Kids and teens

Dan Beta is for climbers 13 and older.
Training on a clip needs a climber who is 18 or older, or a parent's yes. Until the app asks your age, the team applies this by hand.
Once we know a clip shows a child, we never use it for training.
A parent can ask us to delete a child's clip or account at any time.

These rights are never tied to Dans: delete, kids' protections and the question about public use work the same on every plan.

How long we keep it

Delete

By email: privacy@danbeta.app Address to confirm. Tell us which review, or say "my account". Your account has no email on it, so add your invite link (You → Dans → Give a friend a Dan). That is how we find the right account.

In the app: You → Delete a review, or You → Delete my account.

Delete my account removes your clips, your reviews, your answers, your app events and what Dan knows about you. We keep a scrambled id, not your clip or answers, in our record of Dans and invites.

Deleting takes your clips out of every learning set the next time we build it. A model that already learned keeps what it learned.

Where your data lives

We store your clips and your account in the United States (Supabase, in Virginia). While a review runs, Modal and Anthropic process the clip and the frames on their own servers. If you live outside the United States, your data goes there.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to:

show you the data we have on you, and give you a copy;
correct it;
delete it;
stop using your clips for training.

California: you also have the right to know, to delete, to correct and to opt out, and we do not treat you worse for using them. We do not sell or share your data for ads. Free Dans and training are explained in section 06.

EU and UK: you can also object to how we use your data and complain to your data protection authority. Saying no to learning is as easy as saying yes. EU and UK terms to confirm

Versions and dates

Every consent text the app has shown, with its date. Each clip will record the version it was sent under. Coming with the next app update
